The String Cheese Incident Nod Toward The Moon During “Werewolves of Hula” Set

After closing out their Friday night frame with help from members of Goose and Roosevelt Collier, The String Cheese Incident returned to the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Fla., for their three-part Saturday stand. The group’s follow-up boasted a pair of standard sets to start the night, followed by a full-fledged Halloween experience during their jam-packed third and final frame, which included Rhonda Thomas, Cleveland P. Jones, Natalie Cressman, Jennifer Hartswick, and Jonathan Mones. 

After a conventional run-through of material to commence The String Cheese Incident’s stage time, which included primarily originals, the band returned, ready for their third and final follow-up, dubbed Full Moon Family Reunion. Pulling in the night’s theme, the band started by twisting Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” to a locationally fitting “Werewolves of Hula.” The party continued with a take on Sly and The Family Stone’s “Family Affair” before a contemporary cover, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” with Hartwick on vocals. 

King Harvest’s classic “Dancing in the Moonlight” ensued, followed by Talking Heads’ Speaking in Tongues cut, “Moon Rocks.” Marking the continuation of lunar mentions, the band landed on Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon.” The Allman Brothers Band tune, “Revival,” came before a take on The Neville Brothers’ “Yellow Moon.” From one cover to the next, the band revived Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair.” 

With the full moon overhead, The String Cheese Incident continued with their cosmic motif, taking on The Police’s “Walking on The Moon” and Van Morrison’s “Moondance.” The latter was led by SCI member Jason Hann, who delivered the Irishmen’s favored lyrics. The band wasted no time picking up Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” merged with Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling” to mark the end of the third and final frame.
