TikTok introduces increased monetisation opportunities for creators

In a positive move for users, TikTok has introduced direct tipping for creators on the platform.

As per Billboard, TikTok announced the new feature on Wednesday, December 1st. Operating under the name Creator Next, the toolset will provide TikTok creators with new ways to monetise their work.

The platform previously allowed creators to accept virtual gifts from fans during TikTok Live videos. This new development means that they can now accept payments and gifts even when they’re not live streaming.

Creator Next is open to eligible users, defined by TikTok as anyone over the age of 18 who have met the minimum follower requirements: have at least 1,000 video views, have posted three videos in the past month, and have an account adhering to TikTok’s community guidelines.

The major new part of the Creator Next toolset is called Tips, which allows creators on the platform to receive monetary tips directly from their followers. They’ll get to keep 100% of the income, marking the first direct-tipping function on the platform. Any payments made by Tips will be processed by Stripe, which includes a dashboard where creators can observe and manage their earnings.

The tipping introduction makes sense given the remarkable rise of TikTok in recent years. It reached the lucrative one billion user mark back in September. More and more big-name artists are also joining the platform, including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, U2, and Led Zeppelin.
