Tom DeLonge offers his thoughts on the New Jersey drone sightings
Blink-182‘s Tom DeLonge has offered his thoughts on the mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey.
Unidentified objects have been flying over New Jersey throughout the past month, eliciting varied reactions from lawmakers, residents and curious people online about their origin.
Today (December 15) the BBC reports that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said some of the sightings were in fact drones, as well as manned aircraft commonly mistaken for drones.
Now, UFO-obsessed Blink-182 musician Tom DeLonge has weighed in his thoughts on the drones – claiming that “these things could be ‘mimicking’ other aircraft”. He compares these sightings to mass UFO reports from the 1960s.
On Instagram, DeLonge shared an image of an old government document about UFOs and wrote in the caption: “The drones that are being discussed, can hover for six hours, and then disappear once they are spotted. This is why it’s been hard to get facts from any US Agency. Some of them can even move into the ocean, and then back up to the air. Which is called ‘transmedium travel.’ A very hard thing to do.”
The Guardian reports that The White House, Pentagon, Homeland Security Department and FBI all say that the spotted drones are not UFOs or sent by a hostile foreign power.
In other Blink-182 news, the band has been announced as part of the When We Were Young 2025 line-up – alongside a Panic! At The Disco reunion, Weezer, Avril Lavigne, The Offspring, Knocked Loose, and more.
The pop-punkers made a return to Reading and Leeds Festival this year, where NME gave their performance four stars in a review. It reads: “This set marks a long-awaited return for the pop-punk pioneers, and as far as Blink-182 shows go, it is adamantly clear that the members have no intention of letting go of the charm that helped get them to headliner status in the first place.”
