Track Of The Day 13/12 – Barny Fletcher

‘Breakfast At Isabel’s’

Barny Fletcher has the world at his feet.

A wordsmith with an electrifying mindset, his take on creation seems to put this fast-rising talent in a lane of his own.

Picked by everyone from DJ Shadow to Michaela Coel, he’s able to switch between R&B driven future-soul to hard-spitting rap in the space of a single bar.

After indulging his soulful side Barny Fletcher returns to the mic on new single ‘Breakfast At Isabel’s’, and it goes hard from the off.

Relentless in his attack, ‘Breakfast At Isabel’s’ dips into Barny’s love of 808 driven production for something sharp-edged and defiant.

Discussing his process, Barny explains…

“I found the instrumental for ‘Breakfast At Isabel’s’ on YouTube a few years ago. It’s produced by a crazy talented Baltimore based guy named Donnie Katana. As soon as I heard the beat I knew the intro would make for a mad show opener. I usually always think about tracks in Live context before moving forward with them. It sounded magical, like the opening title sequence to an old Disney film like Bambi or something. Anyway, the song is really just braggadocios as hell hahaha. After putting out 2 singy-singles this year, I decided that dropping a 808 heavy rap moment would shake things up a bit.”

Tune in now.
