Troye Sivan is now in pole position to take out the triple j Hottest 100 of 2023, according to dedicated Hottest 100 prediction website 100 Warm Tunas.

The site, which uses a specially formulated algorithm to trawl social media and tally all the votes shared for each eligible track, published its early predictions for the countdown last week, with the bean counters indicating American indie supergroup boygenius were looking the goods to take out the number #1 spot this year with their single ‘Not Strong Enough’. But now the tables have turned, with the site’s freshly-minted full forecast now backing Troye Sivan’s euphoric summer dancefloor anthem ‘Rush’ to take out this year’s Hottest 100.

Troye Sivan – ‘Rush’

The lead single off the Perth-via-South African artist and LGBTQI+ icon’s third studio LP Something To Give Each Other has notched up 18% of the 243,656 votes tallied by the Hottest 100 Nostradamuses at 100 Warm Tunas, meaning boygenius’s track has slipped to the number #2 spot.

Rounding out the currently predicted top 5, we have Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan with their godzilla collab ‘Rumble’ in third place, MK and Dom Dolla’s ‘Rhyme Dust’ at #4, and homegrown hero Genesis Owusu in fifth position with ‘Leaving The Light’.

100 Warm Tuna’s new Hottest 100 forecast also tips a number of artists to make their Hottest 100 debuts this year, including Sydney metalcore favourites Polaris with ‘Nightmare’ and masked British alt-metal act Sleep Token with ‘The Summoning’.

Of course, the race is far from over, with voting in triple j‘s Hottest 100 of 2023 open until 5pm AEDT next Monday, 22nd January and tens of thousands of votes still to be submitted.

The countdown will then be broadcast live around the world on Saturday, 27th January, with the Hottest 200 of 2023 (i.e. songs 200-101) to follow on Sunday, 28th January.

The following weekend, triple j’s sibling station Double J will turn back the clock to count down the Hottest 100 of 2003. That’s happening on Saturday, 3rd February. Spoiler alert: recent ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Jet topped that year’s countdown with ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, pipping Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ (#2) and The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ (#3).

According to the ABC, since launching in 2016, 100 Warm Tunas has been right about the countdown’s number one song 67% of the time. Flume’s ‘Say Nothing’ featuring MAY-A topped the Hottest 100 of 2022, just as the site predicted.

100 Warm Tunas’ predictions are constantly changing as more votes are counted hourly. But you can peep its currently forecast results for the triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2023 down below.
