Usher’s Record-Breaking Night on Apple Music—1,200% Rise in Streams
Usher went big for his Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, making Apple Music’s numbers go even bigger.
Usher’s 13-minute Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show set became a party by the end, with collaborators including Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am, and H.E.R. joining in for a record-breaking celebration.
The NFL reports that Usher’s performance is now the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show in history, with an average of 129.3 million viewers, while Apple Music saw Usher’s biggest night for streams of his music.
Immediately after Sunday night’s show, Usher’s listeners on Apple Music soared 1,200% compared to the previous Sunday, marking his biggest day in history by streams. The show also resulted in Usher’s biggest day ever for Shazam hits.
Unsurprisingly, Usher’s biggest song of the night in terms of both streams and Shazams was “Yeah!” which served as the show’s finale; it was the biggest day in Apple Music history for the song, with an 837% boost in listeners Sunday night. The song soared to No. 7 on Apple Music’s Daily Top 100 USA, and No. 10 on the global chart, breaking its record for its highest entry on either chart.
Usher launched seven songs from Sunday’s set list to the US Daily Top 100, and four to the global chart. “My Boo” saw a 738% increase in listeners, entering the US chart at No. 41 and the global chart at No. 80. “Confessions, Pt. II” jumped by 1,800%, while “OMG” and “Burn” reached the US chart at No. 52, 72, and 83, all while achieving new records for daily streams.
“U Got It Bad” also set a new record for daily streams, with listeners for the 2001 jam more than quadrupling after Sunday’s show. The song made its debut on both the US and Global Daily Top 100, at No. 29 and 57, respectively.
“Love in This Club” saw one of the biggest lifts in listenership of the night at 2,000%, aiding in the song also reaching a new streams record and make its debut at No. 33 on the US chart, and No. 72 on the global chart.
With a total of six songs on the global chart and nine on the Daily Top 100 USA, Usher marks his most simultaneous entries in history on both charts. Other songs that set new daily stream records on Apple Music worldwide include “My Way,” “Caught Up,” “U Don’t Have to Call,” and “Nice & Slow.”
Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” also saw a notable uptick in listeners, up more than 1,800% after her appearance Sunday Night. Lil Jon also saw an uptick in listeners of 1,370%, while his hit “Turn Down For What” saw an 800% increase in listeners. Ludacris and H.E.R. saw a 334% and 103% lift in listeners, respectively.
