Watch: Maggie Rose Interprets Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” with Vince Gill

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rose is adding her chops to Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 Luck of the Draw classic, “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” The poignant cover arrives today, Friday, Jan. 10, on the heels of the musician’s GRAMMY-nominated LP No One Gets Out Alive, and combs in a guest slot from Nashville star Vincent Gill, a splendid interplay of voices. Today’s release arrives as a behind-the-scenes music video and stream-ready track. 

Before entering the studio and committing to the recording, Rose held a deep admiration for Raitt and her saged career [In December 2024, Raitt became a Kennedy Center honoree as a member of the 47th class, along with the Grateful Dead], longing to channel the heartbreaking song into a duet. 

As a deep-seated fan of Gill, Rose sought the opportunity to combine vocal power with the one-time lead singer of Pure Prairie League. Supported by lush instrumentation, the final result of the duo’s lyrical delivery highlights their chemistry in the studio and knack for evoking passionate responses. 

“I have always considered ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ to be one of those immaculate songs that any artist would aspire to write and perform so it was a dream to reimagine it,” commented Rose via press release. 

“The melody and emotion within that song are timeless so having Vince’s timeless voice took it over the top. I’m so grateful that he was willing to collaborate with me on the recording and that he shared with me in the appreciation of Bonnie’s original because such [a] legendary song deserves a legendary voice like his,” she concluded.
