Watch: Willie Nelson Performs “I Never Cared For You” on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, outlaw country troubadour Willie Nelson appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with his son Micah Nelson to deliver a full band performance of “I Never Cared for You.” The appearance occurred before the musician’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which will happen this weekend.

During Nelson’s televised performance, he worked through his October 1964-released number, the B Side of “You Left Me (A Long Time Ago).” Starting solo, Nelson crooned the lines and added some riffs before a full band leap into Texas-tinged instrumentation.

A high point also included a harmonica solo from longtime collaborator and The Family band member Mickey Raphael, who added to the depth of the tune with breathy blows, which complemented the overall composition. After last night’s performance, Nelson will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, along with fellow recipients Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, the late George Michael, and more.
