Why Kieran Culkin Doesn’t Want His Kids Watching ‘Home Alone’

Actor Kieran Culkin may have foul-mouthed characters in his repertoire, but there’s one movie of his that he’s very skeptical of allowing his children to watch. 

The Succession actor, 42, revealed in an interview with E! News at The Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards in New York City on Monday, December 2 that he is hesitant to allow his kids to watch Christmas classic Home Alone.

“There’s still some scary parts,” Culkin said. “For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a 3-year-old.”

Culkin is the father of 5-year-old daughter Kinsey and 3-year-old son Wilder, both of whom he shares with wife, Jazz Charton. 

But, elsewhere in the conversation, Culkin admitted he may allow them to watch the 1990 classic this year.

“We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year,” he revealed. “If not, next year.”

Though his brother Macaulay Culkin is the main star of Home Alone, Kieran has brief roles in the original film and its 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. He plays Fuller, the cousin of Macaulay’s Kevin McAllister character. In one scene in the original film, Fuller is seen drinking Pepsi, prompting an older character to tell him “easy on the Pepsi.”

While Kieran is reluctant to share the movie with his own children, Macaulay wasted no time. 

In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Macaulay revealed that he played the movie for his now 3-year-old son Dakota — whom he shares with his wife, Brenda Song —  a year prior.

 “I convinced my oldest that he’s the kid in the movie,” Macaulay said. “I said, ‘Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’ He is such a liar. I’m like, ‘You don’t remember any of that.’”
